Novel Response #3

"A Farewell To Arms" is a very intrigueing story that has to be read with understanding of what point the Author is trying to get across. in book three of the story henry and catherine have went back to switzerland to escape the italians that are trying to make him go back to the front and fight which he does not want to do because of the dander and the chance of getting killed. hery and catherine's love for each other grows into something more serios than what it has been since they first met. when catherine and henry first met she didnt want the relationship to get serious because she was stil grieving at the loss of her fiance whom she loved very dearly.

Catherine was a very sensitive girl that expresses her feelings to henry in some occasions when their about to make love to each other. catherine says that she feels like a whore becuase their not married and are into a relationship. I think while growing up catherine was taught by her parents that you should get married before you have sex, or abstinence is the best policy because of the way she felt.

many of the Authors details ans descriptions that he uses are symbols of meaning in the story. while reading book three in the novel "A farewell to Arms" rain serves as a symbol of the inevitable disintegration of happiness in life. catherine, Ms. barkley says that the rain has a tendency of ruining things for lovers at the ending of the story while it's raining Catherine gives birth to a still born baby , this is very sad for henry because he really wanted a child. after Catherine takes her last breath the author describes henry as as he gets up and walk home in the rain. The Author has it raining while this tragedyis taking place because the rain that is falling is a symbol of his style of writing and making it as trategic as he can.

in the ending of the story it gets very sad just like the Authors life did when he was living. at the end of the story catherine gets very sick because of her pregnancy. whhile giving labour henry is excited but gets the news that catherine gave birth to a still born child and not long after that catherine dies. I think it's very sad how al of this has happened to a couple that really loved each other and was excited that they were truly about to start a family but then all of a sudden henry is left to himself just like at the beginning of the story when he was single and didn't have a companion like Catherine.
